Facilities

Reception and Waiting Area

Once you’ve spoken with our Client Care team at Reception please make yourself comfy in the Waiting Area. We want your pets to feel as relaxed as possible during their visit. To reduce stress for all our patients, we have separate waiting areas for cats and dogs.

Through our commitment to the excellent care of cats and their owners, Eastcott has been accredited by International Cat Care (iCatCare) as a Silver Level Cat Friendly Clinic.

Consultation Rooms

We have 10 large consulting rooms, allowing space and time for clinicians to perform a thorough clinical assessment of each patient. We have a number used for general consultations and others are used exclusively for dedicated services such as ophthalmology, orthopaedics, medicine and dentistry This allows us to have the necessary specialist equipment close at hand.

Dog Ward and Examination Room

Our kennels were designed with patient comfort and care in mind. We have a range of kennels designed to suit dogs of all sizes. For larger breed dogs we have full height walk-in kennels with glass doors to make them feel less confined.
Each dog is provided with clean and comfortable bedding which is changed regularly. Orthopaedic padded mattresses are also provided for dogs that require it. Our wards are climate controlled and ventilated throughout. The walls and floors allow easy cleaning which helps us to maintain the highest standards of infection control.

Patients receive 24-hour care from our team of Registered Veterinary Nurses and Patient Care Assistants. They provide a high level of care to each patient, with regular monitoring ensuring that each patient receives their medication at the correct time and all their physical needs are cared for.

We understand that reassurance is important to our patients and that giving them tender loving care is as important as feeding, grooming, and walking.

Connected to the Dog Wards we have a dedicated Dog Examination Room. This allows us to examine our canine patients in a calm and quiet environment, helping to reduce any stress or anxiety.

Cat Ward and Examination Room

The cat ward has been designed to create a calm, stress free environment and is separate from our dog ward. Kennels are made of cat friendly surfaces with shelves for sleeping and places to hide from sight.

The cat ward is staffed by Registered Veterinary Nurses and Patient Care Assistants, 24 hours a day. Providing the most up-to-date care and treatment to all our feline patients. The hospital has been awarded silver status by International Cat Care and all our staff have received training in handling cats gently and with respect.

Connected to the Cat Ward we have a dedicated Cat Examination Room which allows us to examine our feline patients without having to move them round the hospital and keeping them out of the line of sight of dogs. This room has all the necessary equipment to allow us to examine your cat in a calm and safe environment.

Intensive Care Unit

The intensive care unit (ICU) is at the heart of the hospital and provides facilities to care for the most complex of conditions and critically ill patients.
The ICU is equipped with the most advanced care facilities available including incubators, specialised monitoring and diagnostic equipment, ICU ventilators and defibrillator.

It is staffed 24 hours a day by our dedicated Emergency and Critical Care (ECC) team of vets and nurses who are available to support and advise on all acute, emergency and critical cases.

The ECC team, work with specialists from all our disciplines to provide intensive care tailored to the needs of each patient in our purpose-built ICU.

Minor Operations

The minor ops room is set up for minor, sometimes non-sterile, procedures such as flushing ears and suturing small and superficial wounds. Whilst minor procedures are performed here, the room is set up with the monitoring equipment that would be expected in an operating theatre to ensure that any patients anaesthetised here are monitored to the same high standards.

Medicine Room

Our Medicine Room is where our Internal Medicine specialists carry out investigations and perform a wide variety of medical procedures and interventions, including endoscopic evaluation of gastrointestinal, respiratory and urinary tract disease. The facility is equipped with a variety of video endoscopes enabling detailed evaluation of patients of all sizes.

Ultrasound

We have two ultrasound rooms for the use of our imaging staff to examine and acquire ultrasound images of abdominal and thoracic organs, the eye and musculoskeletal system using advanced ultrasound equipment. Ultrasound scans are performed to help diagnose a condition and to take guided biopsies of internal organs and deep tissues.

X-ray

We have two digital X-ray rooms allowing us to acquire diagnostic, pre and post-operative images and assess patients quickly and efficiently.

CT

The CT room is home to an advanced 64 slice GE CT scanner which produces detailed cross sectional images allowing precise lesion identification. Using software we can reconfigure these into a detailed three-dimensional images which helps in visualising lesions and fractures and planning surgical treatment.

CT images are useful for assessing all kinds of diseases including bone abnormalities, spinal problems, teeth problems, nasal disease and conditions of the lungs. CT also helps us to assess patients with cancer since we can see much more detail about the extent of the tumour and whether it has spread elsewhere in the body. CT is especially useful to createhighly detailed images of lung tissue allowing the detection of lesions that are not visible on conventional radiographs. CT is also used for assessment of the blood vessels and anatomical abnormalities.

Radiographic contrast agents are often used, to help highlight areas of inflammation or abnormal tissue.

MRI

We have invested in a state-of-the-art Philips MR5300 AI-enabled MRI scanner. This represents the latest technology in advanced imaging capabilities, providing highly detailed cross-sectional images of the brain and spinal cord in 50% less time than conventional MRI scanners. This reduces the time that patients spend under general anaesthesia and helps our specialist-led neurology team to accurately diagnose conditions and decide on the best treatment.

Philips MR5300 AI-enabled MRI scanner

MRI can be used to diagnose the following conditions:

  • Brain disorders – including stroke, inflammatory disease, infections, tumours and cysts
  • Spinal disorders – including disc herniations (IVDD), congenital disorders, infections and tumours
  • Musculoskeletal disorders – evaluation of joints, tendons and ligaments.

I think my pet requires an MRI scan – what should I do?

The best thing is to discuss different options with your local vet. They will discuss different referral options with you and ensure you arrive at the best possible decision for your pet.

If your pet has a brain or spinal disorder they may benefit from referral to our expert specialist-led neurology team who will carefully examine your pet and discuss the possible causes of the problem with you and then arrange further investigations. The consultation is included within our fixed-price MRI and Neurology investigations package.
